Union health minister Jagat Prakash Nadda who was recently appointed as the BJP’s in charge for Uttar Pradesh, is confident that his party would outdo its earlier performance in the Lok Sabha elections and is aiming to get more than 50% votes despite SP-BSP alliance. Claiming that the alliance was nothing but a desperate bid to come to power, Nadda said the development only proved how strong the BJP has emerged. Regarding inclusion of Priyanka Gandhi as general secretary, he added that it only was an official declaration of Cong that Rahul Gandhi has failed as a leader.
In a freewheeling interview with Aditya Kant the health minister also shared his views over improving health facilities in the rural and far flung areas.
How do you look at BJP’s prospects in the coming Lok Sabha elections in view of SP-BSP alliance?
The alliance goes on to show that the BJP has emerged as the strongest party. It has also exposed the desperation of power hungry party leaders, who have been finding it hard to remain away from the power. It’s not an alliance of like-minded leaders but a panic reaction against the BJP and its leadership. We are very positive about the outcome and people would be surprised to see the results.
But if trends of recent assembly elections are any indication, BJP seems to be losing the mandate lately? And it’s generally believed the party that wins from UP forms government at the centre?
Those predicting the outcome on the basis of the assembly results of five states are wrong.
No two elections are the same and all elections are different. People may have different issues and concerns in the state but they are going to vote for
Narendra Modi at centre. After the alliance and with no other leader matching his stature, people’s faith in the leadership of Narendra Modi has grown stronger. Also BJP has grown strong not only leadership wise but also at the organizational level. BSP has no presence in Lok Sabha while SP only has a microscopic presence.
Congress has appointed Priyanka Gandhi as the general secretary in UP. How do you look at it?
This only goes on to show that even Congress has realized and accepted that Rahul Gandhi has failed as a leader. Everyone knows how this household company works. He should also explain what he has to say on ‘parivarwadi’ soch. Even those in opposition accept the fact that there is no other leader who matches the caliber of Narendra Modi who is a leader of an international stature.
On what issues the BJP plans to focus during the campaign?
‘Sabka Vikas Sabka Saath’. The development work by the BJP government is the key issue. We have dedicated workers, a well defined policy, a well laid out plan is our focus. The good
wok done under the leadership of Narendra Modi and party president and the active mobilisation of booth level workers is going to be our campaign's highlight.
There is a lack of basic medical facilities and infrastructure in several rural and far flung areas. Also, the premiere medical institutes like AIIMS and PGIMER, primarily meant to treat advanced and complicated cases are dealing with the issue of overcrowding of patients. What has the government done about it?
Funds have been allocated to strengthen the infrastructure and manpower at district and state level and also improve the manpower so that basic treatment is given at the initial level. Instructions have been given to the state governments to conduct audit of doctors who are referring patients to the premier institutes unnecessarily, who can be treated within the state. For Himachal Pradesh alone the government has allocated Rs 1430 crore under National Health Mission since 2014. Besides a satellite centre would soon be set up at PGIMER Chandigarh soon.
There has been criticism from a section over certain provisions in the surrogacy (Regulation) Bill. Your comments.
The bill is yet to get a go ahead from Rajya Sabha after it was cleared in the Lok Sabha. So many aspects were taken into considerations while drafting it. But it would be inappropriate for me to comment on the issue at this stage.
